Bergamont Essential Oil – Unveiling It’s Past
Bergamot essential oil has that little interesting past like every other essential oil has…Bergamot oil does many benefits to us and our body parts we precisely value most…
Although a native of tropical Asia, Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is now extensively cultivated in the Southern part of Italy, particularly in the Calabria region. It also takes its name from an Italian city, that of Bergamot in Lombardy, where the essential oil was originally sold. The Italians have used Bergamot in folk medicine for years, in particular for fevers.
Recent Italian research has shown that Bergamot essential oil has a wide variety of uses in aromatherapy application; it is useful for respiratory problems, skin diseases, mouth and urinary tract infections. It has been used since the sixteenth century as a remedy for fever and as an antiseptic. It is also renowned for being used as the flavoring in Earl Grey Tea.
Bergamot essential oil is obtained from the cold expression of the peel of nearly ripe fruit of the Bergamot tree. The small fruit tree is a characteristic of the southern Italian landscape; its small, round fruit is very bitter and is inedible when raw. The fruit looks like a miniature orange. The essential oil obtained from the fruit of the Bergamot tree has a citrus-like aroma but also a spicy undertone.
A primary component of the fragrant eau-de-cologne, Bergamot oil also has a number of therapeutic uses in aromatherapy. It has a high content of the chemicals esters and alcohols, making it a gentle oil to use. Bergamot oil is useful for digestive difficulties, stress, infectious wounds, as an insect repellent and for cystitis. It is
▪ Analgesic
▪ Stimulant
▪ Diuretic
▪ Antiseptic
▪ Antidepressant
▪ Deodorant
▪ Tonic
Bergamot is known to be one of the most photo toxic essential oils and for this reason should be used with care in sunlight, hot climates and with other ultraviolet light. Photo sensitivity is caused by the presence of furocoumarins, most notably Bergapten, in this particular essential oil. Apart from this factor, Bergamot is considered to be a relatively non-toxic and non-irritant essential oil.

Essential Oils Throughout History
Essential oils have been used throughout recorded history for a wide variety of wellness applications. The Egyptians were some of the first people to use aromatic essential oils extensively in medical practice, beauty treatment, food preparation, and in religious ceremony. Frankincense, sandalwood, myrrh and cinnamon were considered very valuable cargo along caravan trade routes and were sometimes exchanged for gold.
Borrowing from the Egyptians, the Greeks used essential oils in their practices of therapeutic massage and aromatherapy. The Romans also used aromatic oils to promote health and personal hygiene. Influenced by the Greeks and Romans, as well as Chinese and Indian Ayurvedic use of aromatic herbs, the Persians began to refine distillation methods for extracting essential oils from aromatic plants. Essential oil extracts were used throughout the dark ages in Europe for their anti-bacterial and fragrant properties.
In modern times, the powerful healing properties of essential oils were rediscovered in 1937 by a French chemist, Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, who healed a badly burnt hand with pure lavender oil. A French contemporary, Dr. Jean Valnet, used therapeutic-grade essential oils to successfully treat injured soldiers during World War II. Dr. Valnet went on to become a world leader in the development of aromatherapy practices. The modern use of essential oils has continued to grow rapidly as health scientists and medical practitioners continue to research and validate the numerous health and wellness benefits of therapeutic-grade essential oil.
The Truth About Prescription Drugs
The dangers of prescription drugs are intrinsic to the drugs, themselves. No matter how careful the physician in prescribing and how compliant the patient in following doctor’s orders, even deaths and damages occur.
In fact according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, more than 100,000 Americans die every year, not from illegal drugs, not from drug overdoses, not from over-the-counter drugs, and not from drug abuses, but from properly prescribed, properly taken prescriptions.
In this country more people die from doctor’s prescriptions every ten days than were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Why is this so? Why do allopathic drugs always have undesirable effects (along with their apparent benefits) while one can find healing with natural products, such as essential oils, with no undesirable effects? Here is why.
It is illegal to patent any natural products.
The way to big profits in the medicine industry is to create an unnatural substance that never before existed in nature, then patent it, and obtain a monopoly. Hence, the molecules of pharmaceutical drugs are all strange to the human body. In all the history of humankind, such molecules were never encountered or taken into any human body.
Hence, the body does not easily metabolize them. God never made your body to accept and deal with these chemicals and antibiotics. Hence, you can find traces of prescription drugs in your body that were taken in childhood, decades ago.
On the other hand, natural molecules, such as those found in essential oils, are easily metabolized by the body. In fact, your body was created to handle them.
My Wonder(ful) Mom

My wonder(ful) mom
Many of you know my mom. She is a spunky, kind, and caring person. In October 2013, she had major dental surgery for over an hour. Part of her jaw bone crumbled, and her teeth were also affected.
For years my parents have not been on any medication, because they are extremely healthy people. My mom did not want to be on any medications after the surgery. She followed this strict regimen every three hours: Frankincense was rubbed on her gums and put under her tongue. Lemongrass was rubbed on her cheek and under the tongue. Oregano was also taken internally. Lastly, she took Protective Blend Softgels three times a day. My mom is proud to say she is 78, and didn’t even use pain medication. Way to go mom! The power of essential oils are amazing.
My Essential Oil Story
I want to share my essential oil story with everyone. Just to back up a bit, I grew up with parents that believed it is better to try to heal an illness naturally first, and if that doesn’t work then go to the doctor. I remember taking all kinds of herbs and natural remedies. Many I believe helped. However, I am still not convinced taking a tablespoon of cod liver oil every morning keeps you from getting sick. I still have nightmares over that. One thing I noticed my mom using were Essential Oils. I thought how strange it was to rub an oil on your body, because they are known to have healing properties, I wasn’t convinced.
Fast forward 20 years. We have friends that we have known for 16 years that talked my wife Cassie into having an Essential Oils class in our home. I was not happy when I found out about it. After all, I knew all I needed to know about Essential Oils. I thought it was a little strange when my parents used them to help with aches and pains. I thought they were just a placebo to help people think they were getting healed.
I had the perfect plan. I would stay at the meeting for 20 minutes then gracefully exit, and go with my daughter to an extra credit Sign Language activity at a nearby university. We misplaced the information about the class, and decided to stay for the entire Essential Oil class. At the very end of the class, we were asked if we wanted to get scanned with a bio-feedback machine called a Zyto scan ( This is a machine that sends impulses from your body to a computer that will tell you what oils will work best for you individually.) I thought this ranked right up there with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. When I got scanned, the scanner showed that I needed the repellent blend of essential oils, a blend of oils used for an insect repellent. The presenter said that was interesting as the repellent blend will show up on the scanner if someone is “bugged” or annoyed. I said I didn’t want to be at this class, and everyone had a good laugh. Then Cassie got scanned. What showed up on her scan surprised us. It showed that she needed to use the soothing blend of essential oils (an oil that has been studied for bone and tissue repair.) We never told our friends that a week prior, Cassie had fallen at work and injured her knee. This really got Cassie’s attention. We ordered a Family Physician Kit and a Modern Essentials book. I was still not totally convinced that these oils worked. In my mind, I thought what a waste. In a month or two, this fad will go away.
The more we have used the Essential Oils, the more we are amazed by their effectiveness, and how powerful they are. Our kids go to the Modern Essentials book first when they have a health concern that needs to be addressed. We cannot imagine our lives without Essential Oils, and love to share them with everyone we know. We use Essential Oils daily. Let me know what your health concerns are. I would be honored to share some with you. May God bless you on your path to healthy living.
