Aches and Pains a Regular Part of Life

Cassie Fish

The older I get the more I realize aches and pains are a regular part of life. When I was younger I would hear people in their fifties and beyond talk about all their ailments, I thought how bad can it get? Now that I am one of those older people, I get it. Most of the time I am feeling great, however there are times when I feel my age, surprised at all the places you can have a senior moment with pain.

Several years ago Cassie my wife, was expecting our youngest daughter when her knee gave out on her. She was in major pain as a result of pulling a ligament. Ever since this happened, Cassie’s knee has never been the same. Cassie kept her knee wrapped with a knee brace for extra support for quite a while as a result of the injury.

Cassie was able to remove her knee brace after a few months but her knee was never quite the same. One day 3 years ago after a early spring snow storm, Cassie slipped on some ice walking to the parking lot and really messed up her knee.

A few days after Cassie re-injured her knee we were at a (  ) class where we were introduced to essential oils. At the end of the class we were asked if we wanted to get a Zyto Hand Scan with bio feed back capabilities. This is a computer program where a person puts their hand on a extra large mouse like device. When you put your hand on this it sends impulses from the body to the computer to determine how many of 76 bio markers are out of the normal range. The lower the number the more your body is in the normal range.

Melaleuca is Antibacterial

Melaleuca Has Healing Properties

For years I have suffered with canker sores. For all of you who don’t know how painful a canker sore is, this is a pain that doesn’t stop, coming from the depths of your soul. This is a pain that starts out slow and lasts long. In fact canker sores can last up to three weeks. No sooner would one canker sore start to heal, then another one would form. Sometimes I could have as many as three canker sores in my mouth at one time.

Canker sores appear to be brought on by many types of stress, either emotional, physical, or chemical. Emotional stress can be caused by any situation that puts you under pressure. Physical stress might be caused by an abrasion in your mouth, burns from hot foods, or even biting your tongue or cheek. Chemical stress means anything that changes your body chemistry, such as an illness or a change in your eating habits.

There are two things I have found that are very helpful with my canker sores. First I take L-Lysine. This is a very important amino acid that you can find in the vitamin section of the grocery store. The second thing I use is melaleuca essential oil. I rub this oil on my canker sores. It numbs my canker sores. Melaleuca essential oil is a very powerful oil. It is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-infectious. Since I started using melaleuca essential oil the length of time I have a canker sore is a lot less. Who would have thought the oil in a small bottle would be so effective?

My Challenge to Stay Focused

Image

If any of you know me I have a hard time sitting for long periods of time without getting drowsy or even falling a sleep. As a regular church goer I found myself in this situation most weeks sitting in church. The heart and mind were willing to stay awake and focused, yet the body was weak. I would doze off to sleep often on the hard pew benches.

All through Elementary, Junior High, and High School I struggled with learning partly due to my inability to focus. I also was developmentally behind most kids my age, because it was discovered I couldn’t see very well when I went in for my kindergarten check-up. Most subjects in school were painfully hard for me, and almost unbearable to do school assignments. Homework was also a nightmare for me and my family, becoming an all night project.

Now that I have painted this picture of my inability to focus you might find it interesting to know that I became an Eagle Scout. If it wasn’t  for my sister, Ramona, and my parents I don’t think this accomplishment would have happened. My dad was the scout master, and my mom was great at knowing what I needed to do, My sister was great at helping me with my merit badges.

I went to my first essential oil convention in 2012, and was thrilled when they introduced a new essential oil  blend  used to help you focus. I was so excited to see if this oil really works so I rubbed some on the back of my neck before church, It worked. I stayed a wake.

How I wish I had this oil when I was a struggling young student. Any chance I get now, I like to share this new discovery of essential oils with others. Best of all there are no side effects. ADHD kids may now have a new alternative to powerful drugs with bad side effects. This essential oil is a great new friend for everyone who needs help staying focused.

Head Over Heals About Helichrysum

Image

Helichrysum essential oil has a very distinct smell. When I was new to using essential oils, I was like the kid in the candy store seeing what each oil smelled like. I remember going over to Chelsi and James Stevens home where I noticed the Holy Grail of essential oils “the box” a beautiful wooden box with dōTERRA engraved on top. This wonderful symbol of health had every oil dōTERRA makes in one place.

The search was over. No more longing for the day when I could personally experience the scent of dozens of pure essential oils. I eagerly opened each bottle with excitement taking in the aroma of each oil. White pine essential oil smelled just like I was in the mountains, while lemon essential oil smelled like a freshly squeezed lemon just before adding sugar and water for lemonade, while pure peppermint essential oil has a powerful scent.

Helichrysum essential oil is not what I expected. It has a strong odor that grows on you. I am surprised at how powerful the oil from this flower is when used on cuts and scrapes. dōTERRA spares no expense to get the highest quality oils sourced from where they are grown indigenously. Helichrysum is no exception, as it is grown in Corsica, in eastern Europe.

Several months ago I cut my right hand. I forgot about the cut until 4 days later when I cut my left hand in almost the identical same spot. I decided to do an experiment. On my most recent wound (my left hand) I put helichrysum essential oil, the other wound on my right hand I did nothing. After two weeks you could not tell where the wound was on my left hand. The right hand was still scabbed up.

Every time I use essential oils, I am no longer surprised at how quickly and effective essential oils work. I like to remind myself that modern medicine has been around for a relatively short period of time with side effects. Essential oils on the other hand have been around since the beginning of time with no side effects. I will choose natures medicine first over modern medicine every time for healing.

Peppermint is Powerful

Image
One of my favorite things to do is watch someone experience Peppermint essential oil for the first time. When I am sharing essential oils with a group of people, I will put one drop of oil in the palm of their hand. Then have them put their hands together and rub. Then I have them put their hands in a cupping shape and breathe in the pure scent of pure peppermint essential oil. It is funny to see their reaction not hardly believing that one drop of this oil can be so powerful.

I have no doubt God put plants on earth for our use. Peppermint definitely makes its presence known. I enjoy the powerful effects of this oil, using peppermint on a regular basis year round. In Winter I use it to help keep me clear of congestion. In Spring it helps with allergies. In Summer it helps keep me cool. In the Fall I use peppermint in cooking, and for allergies.

I am amazed how many people run to their medicine cabinet when they have any kind of ailment. My grandpa Richie became a pharmacist after my uncle died at age seven, from a accidental drug overdose, being given an adult sized dose when he was sick. My grandpa always said drugs are to sell not to use. He was aware of all the negative side effects every medication has.

When I get a headache I like to rub peppermint right on the location of my headache, or PastTense an essential oil blend, made specifically for headaches that has peppermint essential oil in it. Nature’s medicine cabinet is very powerful with no side effects. Due to my childhood up bringing, I have always had the mantra of less is more. If on a very rare occasion I do use prescription drugs, they are more effective because I use them less often, and my body has not built up a resistance to them. My first line of defense is essential oils.

Bugs Dont Bug Me

BeetleTwo years ago, My wife agreed to let our friends come to our home to teach us how to use essential oils. I was very annoyed about this situation after all my parents were using them and I thought if a placebo makes you feel better go for it, but they are not for me.

The big event came. I had the perfect plan, I would stay for a few minutes then go with my daughter to an extra credit High School Activity with her sign language class. We ended up staying for the entire class. I was still skeptical, yet listened politely.

At the end of the class we were all asked if we wanted to have a Zyto Hand Scan to see what essential oils would help us best at that point in time. I put my hand on this big computer mouse looking thing that measured 76 key areas of your body. The number one thing that came up for me was  the repellent blend essential oil which is an insect repellant. The woman helping me understand my Zyto Hand Scan said that is interesting. The only thing I can think of would be is there anything bugging you, and I said “yes I don’t want to be at this class”. Everyone had a good laugh.

My wife Cassie was next to have her hand scanned. What showed up on her scan was very interesting. The number one thing her scan read was that she needed the soothing blend essential oil, an essential oil blend, used in helping soothe and repair injured muscle tissue. Cassie had not mentioned that prior to the class. She had fallen at work, and was in great pain.

Now the big sales pitch! I was not totally convinced the oils would work. Cassie wanted to buy a starter kit, and I thought what a waste of money. She bought a kit. Soon after we bought the repellent blend essential oil knowing we would be enjoying the outdoors for the summer.

The repellent blend essential oil what an amazing product! The first place I had to try this new found bug repellant was camping. I was going on a scout camp where the bugs can be very miserable. The scouts discovered very quickly that they were not getting any bug bites because they were using . I remember going to the opening ceremony that first night not getting one bite while I was watching several boys getting eaten alive.

My son Rick went to Bear Lake with some friends. The bugs were so bad there were big red bite marks where he had been bitten. He came home mid week. Then returning to the lake for the remainder of the week, he asked me “Dad is there anything that will protect me from the bugs” I gave him some repellent blend essential oil. When he came home, he was happy to report not one bug bite the rest of the trip.

The best part about the repellent blend essential oil is you don’t smell like Toxic Waste like you do when you spray the other bug sprays. There are no side effects and no harmful Deet. Remember, I love to share essential oils. The only reason for not requesting a free sample of  the repellent blend essential oil is you like bug bites or you never go outside.

The 12 Rules for Safety with Essential Oils

The 12 Rules for Safety with Essential Oils

By David Stewart

1. Keep them out of the reach of children. Consider them as you would any therapeutic product in your home.

2. Keep a bottle of vegetable oil handy. It will dilute an essential oil and slow down its rate of absorption if there should be any discomfort or skin irritation.

3. People with sensitive skin can use a patch test to determine if they would react to a particular oil. It is generally safe to apply essential oils to the soles of the feet even for people with sensitive skin.

4. Pregnant women should consult their healthcare professional before using essential oils. Those oils with hormonal quality should probably be avoided during pregnancy. Some of these oils are: sage, clary sage, blue tansy, tarragon, niaouli, cypress, myrtle and wild tansy.

5. Essential oils rich in phenols (the hot oils) should be used with caution when applying to the skin. Use caution when apply to any sensitive areas, such as the throat and face. Before applying oils to the tender skin of young children.

6. Keep essential oils away from the eye area where even the vapors can cause irritation. Do not handle contact lenses or rub the eyes with essential oils on your fingers. Oils with high phenol content can damage lenses and irritate eyes. If essential oils accidentally get in the eyes, pour vegetable oil in the eyes to stop the burning. Don’t use water. Water will drive the oils in faster increasing the burning sensation.

7. Essential oils may be applied on or around the ears, but don’t pour essential oils directly into the ears.

8. People with epilepsy, high blood pressure, or who are prone to convulsions should consult a healthcare professional before using essential oils. Hyssop, fennel, and wild tansy oils should probably be avoided in these cases.

9. Most commonly used essential oils have been designated by the FDA as being “Generally Regarded as Safe” for oral usage. This designation is abbreviated as “GRAS.”  Before ingesting, GRAS oils may be, at your option, diluted with honey, milk, rice milk, olive oil, or other lipid dissolving liquid.

10.  In using essential oils in bath water, first add a dispersant, like a gel or liquid soap, to avoid concentrated droplets that can sometimes gravitate to sensitive areas of the body. There are always ways to safely disperse oils in a bath given in most books on applied aromatherapy.

11.  Some oils are phototoxic. When applied to the skin, avoid direct sunlight or the rays of healing lamps for at least 12 hours afterwards. These oils are: Angelica, Bergamot, Bitter Orange, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Petitgrain and Rue.

12.  Keep essential oils in tightly closed glass bottles away from light and stored in cool places. (Normal room temperatures are cool enough.)  In this way, they will maintain their balanced chemical composition in potency indefinitely.

All things considered, essential oils are among the safest of all therapeutic modalities and one that is safe enough for even amateurs and untrained users.  Nevertheless, the more you know and understand about essential oils, the better and safer your results will be.

Essential Oils Throughout History

Essential oils have been used throughout recorded history for a wide variety of wellness applications. The Egyptians were some of the first people to use aromatic essential oils extensively in medical practice, beauty treatment, food preparation, and in religious ceremony. Frankincense, sandalwood, myrrh and cinnamon were considered very valuable cargo along caravan trade routes and were sometimes exchanged for gold.

Borrowing from the Egyptians, the Greeks used essential oils in their practices of therapeutic massage and aromatherapy. The Romans also used aromatic oils to promote health and personal hygiene. Influenced by the Greeks and Romans, as well as Chinese and Indian Ayurvedic use of aromatic herbs, the Persians began to refine distillation methods for extracting essential oils from aromatic plants. Essential oil extracts were used throughout the dark ages in Europe for their anti-bacterial and fragrant properties.

In modern times, the powerful healing properties of essential oils were rediscovered in 1937 by a French chemist, Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, who healed a badly burnt hand with pure lavender oil. A French contemporary, Dr. Jean Valnet, used therapeutic-grade essential oils to successfully treat injured soldiers during World War II. Dr. Valnet went on to become a world leader in the development of aromatherapy practices. The modern use of essential oils has continued to grow rapidly as health scientists and medical practitioners continue to research and validate the numerous wellness benefits of therapeutic-grade essential oil.

The Blood Brain Barrier

THE BLOOD-BRAIN BARRIER
By David Stewart, Ph.D.,R.A.

It was thought for years that the interstitial tissues of the
brain served as a barrier to keep damaging substances from reaching the neurons of the brain and the cerebrospinal fluid. Instead of a barrier, it would be more accurate to consider it as a sieve or filter through which only molecules of a certain size or smaller can pass.

Most of the molecules of the substances used in chemotherapy are too large to pass through the blood-brain filter, which is why doctors say that chemotherapy doesn’t work on brain cancer. Some of the smaller molecules get through, but not the whole suite of drugs intended.

Doctors don’t know for sure, but it seems that in order to cross the blood-brain barrier, only molecules less than 800-1000 atomic mass units (amu) in molecular weight can get through. Lipid solubility seems to be another factor which facilitates passing through the blood-brain barrier. Water soluble molecules don’t usually penetrate into brain tissue, even when very small. The molecules of essential oils are all not only small, but lipid soluble as well.

In fact, when it comes to essential oils, small molecules (less than 500 amu) are what they are made of. That is why they are aromatic. The only way for something to be aromatic is for the molecules to be so small that they readily leap into the air so they can enter our noses and be detected as odor and smell.

That is why oils for cooking or massage, such as corn, peanut, sesame seed, safflower, walnut, almond, canola, olive and other oils pressed from seeds are not aromatic. Sure, they have a smell, but you can’t smell them across the room in minutes as one can when you opens a bottle of peppermint, hyssop, or cinnamon oil. Essential oils of every species cross the blood-brain barrier.

This makes them uniquely able to address disease, not only from a physical level, but from a more basic and fundamental level-that of the emotions which are often the root cause of physical illness.

A QUICK COURSE IN CHEMISTRY
Because of the tiny molecular structure of the components of an essential oil, they are extremely concentrated. One drop contains approximately 40 million-trillion molecules. Numerically that is a 4 with 19 zeros after it: 40,000,000,000,000,000,000. We have 100 trillion cells in our bodies, and that’s a lot. But one drop of essential oil contains enough molecules to cover every cell in our bodies with 40,000 molecules. Considering that it only takes one molecule of the right kind to open a receptor site and communicate with the DNA to alter cellular function, you can see why even inhaling a small amount of oil vapor can have profound effects on the body, brain, and emotions. Sometimes too many oil molecules overload the receptor sites, and they freeze up without responding at all, when a smaller amount would have been just right. This is why we say that when using oils, “sometimes less is better.”Sometimes more is better, too. Knowing the difference is the art of aromatherapy.

Essential oils are mixtures of dozens, even hundreds, of constituents, all of which are composed of carbon and hydrogen and sometimes oxygen. All essential oils are principally composed of a class of organic compounds built of “isoprene units.”An isoprene unit is a set of five connected carbon atoms with eight hydrogens attached. Their molecular weight is only 68 amu, which is very small, indeed. Molecules built of isoprene units are all classified as “terpenes.” Terpenes are what make essential oils unique in the world of natural substances.

PHENYLPROPANOIDS
Phenylpropanoids are compounds of carbon-ring molecules incorporating one isoprene unit. They are also called hemiterpenes. There are dozens of varieties of phenylpropanoids.

They are found in Clove (90%), Cassia (80%), Basil (75%), Cinnamon (73%), Oregano (60%), Anise (50%), Peppermint (25%). While they can create conditions where unfriendly viruses and bacteria cannot live, the most important function performed by phenylpropanoids is that they clean the receptor sites on the cells. Without clean receptor sites, cells cannot communicate, and the body malfunctions, resulting in sickness.

MONOTERPENES
Monoterpenes are compounds of two isoprene units, which is ten carbon atoms and sixteen hydrogen atoms per molecule- molecular weight 136 amu. There are an estimated 2,000 varieties of monoterpenes.

Monoterpenes are found in most essential oils: Galbanum (80%), Angelica (73%), Hyssop ((70%), Rose of Sharon (54%), Peppermint (45%), Juniper (42%), Frankincense (40%), Spruce (38%), Pine (30%), Cypress (28%), and Myrtle (25%).

While offering a variety of healing properties, the most important ability of the monoterpenes is that they can reprogram miswritten information in the cellular memory. With improper coding in the DNA, cells malfunction and diseases result, including lethal ones such as cancer.

SESQUITERPENES
Sesquiterpenes are compounds of three isoprene units, which is fifteen carbons and twenty-four hydrogens per molecule- molecular weight 204 amu. There are more than 10,000 kinds of sesquiterpenes. Sesquiterpenes are the principal constituents of Cedarwood (98%), Vetiver (97%), Spikenard (93%), Sandalwood (Aloes) 90%, Black Pepper (74%), Patchouli (71%), Myrrh (62%), and Ginger (59%). They are also found in Galbanum, Onycha, and Frankincense (8%).

Sesquiterpene molecules deliver oxygen molecules to cells, like hemoglobin does in the blood. Sesquiterpenes can also erase or deprogram miswritten codes in the DNA. Sesquiterpenes are thought to be especially effective in fighting cancer because the root problem with a cancer cell is that it contains misinformation, and sesquiterpenes can erase that garbled information. At the
same time the oxygen carried by sesquiterpene molecules creates an environment where cancer cells can’t reproduce. Hence, sesquiterpenes deliver cancer cells a double punch-one that disables their coded misbehavior and a second that stops their growth.

The American Medical Association (AMA) has said that if they could find an agent that would pass the blood-brain barrier, they would be able to find cures for ailments such as Lou Gehrig’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Such agents already exist and have been available since Biblical times. The agents, of course, are essential oils-particularly those containing the brain oxygenating molecules of sesquiterpenes.

THE TRIPLE WHAMMY
The big triple punch combination of “PMS” (Phenylpropanoids, Monoterpenes, and Sesquiterpenes) found in essential oils is very powerful in addressing many illnesses, injuries, and disease conditions. That is because this combination offers the following:

First, you clean the receptor sites allowing the proper transfer of hormones, peptides, neurotransmitters, steroids, and other intracellular messengers. (The Phenylpropanoids do that.)

Second, you deprogram or erase the wrong information from cellular memory stored in the DNA. (The Sesquiterpenes take care of that.)

Third, you reprogram the cells with the correct information so they can function properly. (The Monoterpenes do this.)

These three classes of chemical components are why essential oils can sometimes affect a healing that is nearly instant and also permanent. What they simply do is to restore the body back to its natural state of balance and health. While a specific oil may have one or two of these three classes of compounds as its predominant chemistry, all the Biblical oils contain some of all of them. This is one secret to their amazing healing abilities.

So there you have it in a nutshell: The way the blood-brain barrier works and the biochemistry of one of the ways essential oils can help achieve a healing.
