Ylang Ylang-Did You Know?

Ylang YlangDid you know Ylang Ylang is the oil of the Inner Child? Ylang Ylang has a strong effect on the heart. It also is a powerful means for releasing emotional, distressing, or disturbing experiences from the past. Ylang Ylang also helps people let go of bottled up emotions such as sadness and anger.

Ylang Ylang is a tall tropical tree that grows up to 65 feet high with large delicate flowers that come in shades of yellow, mauve, or pink. The yellow flowers are preferred for the extraction of the essential oil, which is steam distilled from the freshly picked flowers. It is indigenous to tropical Asia, but the most prized oil comes from Madagascar and the Comoro Islands.

Ylang Ylang means “flower of flowers” or “fragrance of all fragrances.” This fragrance is traditionally used in aromatherapy to sharpen the senses and for various other purposes. For these reasons, the flowers are spread on the beds of the newly married in Indonesia. Ylang Ylang is used to calm breathing, it may help high blood pressure, and also treats impotence (frigidity). Interestingly enough the original wild flowers had no fragrance. The fragrance we know today came from cloning.

Don’t Eat the Fish

Screen shot 2014-10-08 at 5.44.40 AM

When I was nine or ten I went fishing with my dad and older brother. We must have caught three or four good sized fish. Then my dad and brother gutted the fish which I considered disgusting.

When we got home my mom cooked up the fish, and I remember the entire house smelled of it. Then we sat down as a family to eat all this fried fish for dinner. I didn’t get all the bones out of my fish and I didn’t like the fishy taste. As a result of this experience, I don’t like anything to do with catching or eating fish. So my own rule is don’t eat the fish. This is a great rule for me because of a negative experience that I personally had. For many other people this would be a terrible rule.

How many of us follow rules even when we don’t understand why we are following them? Many rules that we follow are because of a negative experience that happened to someone else, or because of some unusual circumstances.

Mary was cooking a ham for dinner when one of her children asked her, “Why do you cut off the end of the ham when putting it in a pan? Mary’s response was “when I saw my mom cook a ham she always cut off the end of her hams.” Mary decided to call up her mom to find out why she cut the end of her ham off. Her response was, “my hams wouldn’t fit in any of my pans, so I cut the end off.”

Most things we do are based on how it was done in the past. When we get sick, what do we do, we reach for the pain relief capsules. We do what we were taught as children and young adults. We did the best we knew how with the knowledge we had at the time.

Now we know that with every man made drug there are harmful side effects, some minimal, others very dangerous, and compromising to our health. There is hope! I am excited to learn that there are essential oils that have no dangerous side effects, with positive results. I am happy to report my first line of defense when sick or healthy is by using powerful essential oils that have been studied for their healing properties.

Sincerely,

Yarrow-Did You Know?

YarrowDid you know Yarrow is the oil of protection. Some people have a tendency to seek an unhealthy relationship with another person. Yarrow helps protect against these negative attachments. Yarrow is great in assisting with eliminating darkness and moving towards self control.

Yarrow is native to Europe, now commonly found growing wild in North America (except far north). Yarrow is a familiar plant in meadows and fields, along the sides of country lanes, roadsides, on embankments, and in landfills. Yarrow is a member of the daisy family. In many parts of Europe yarrow was believed to protect against all evil.

The yarrow plant was first used by the Greeks over 3,000 years ago for treating wounds on the skin. The flowers and leaves of yarrow were eaten and also made into a tea. The fresh leaves were used to stop bleeding wounds, treat gastrointestinal problems, fight fevers, lessen menstrual bleeding and better circulation. The fresh leaves were also chewed on to relieve tooth aches. Scientists have credited yarrow for its benefits relating to almost every organ in the body.

Yarrow gives strength and energy to the body and mind. It has been studied for its ability to help circulatory disorders like hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Colic, constipation problems, indigestion and cramps are also influenced by using essential oils. Hypertension, Insomnia and other stress related issues are also dealt with using yarrow oil. Many other people claim it is great for allergies, and asthma.

A Story of Four Worms

worm in hand.png
A minister determined a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon. For this demonstration, he watered his lawn in the evening, then when night time approached, visited his back yard with flashlight in hand.  He carefully selected four worms, night-crawlers to be exact.

The Four Worms were Placed into Four Separate Jars

The FIRST WORM was put into a container of alcohol.

The SECOND WORM was put into a container of cigarette smoke.

The THIRD WORM was put into a container of chocolate.

The FOURTH WORM was put into a container of good clean soil.

What Happened to the Four Worms?

At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results:

The FIRST WORM in the jar with alcohol – was DEAD.

The SECOND WORM in the jar with cigarette smoke – was DEAD.

The THIRD WORM in the jar with chocolate – was DEAD.

The FOURTH WORM in the jar of good clean soil – was ALIVE!

So the Minister Asked the Congregation:

What can you learn from this demonstration?

From the back of the church, came the response:

“As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won’t have worms!”

That pretty much ended the service . . .

Wintergreen-Did You Know?

Screen shot 2015-01-17 at 4.43.59 PMDid you know Wintergreen is the oil of surrender? It can help the strong-willed person in letting go of the need to be right, and the need to know. Wintergreen reminds a person that they don’t have to do things on their own. There is a constant invitation to abandon one’s burdens to a higher Power.

The wintergreen is a perennial that is native to the eastern portion of North America? North American Indians chewed the leaves of the wintergreen plant for their distinct flavor, used them in the treatment of aches and pains, and to aid in breathing during hard work.

In the past, wintergreen was used internally to treat chronic mucous discharges, regulate hormones, and as a diuretic; due to its toxicity it is no longer used internally for medicinal purposes. Wintergreen is commonly used in very small amounts to adjust the flavor in candies, chewing gum, herbal teas, mouthwashes, toothpastes, and various beverages. It is also found in insect repellents and insecticidal products.

Wintergreen has a warming effect when applied to skin and is excellent to use in a massage to relieve sore muscles. A little goes a long way, so use sparingly and dilute with Fractionated Coconut Oil to minimize any skin sensitivity. For a soothing bath, add 1–2 drops of Wintergreen essential oil to warm bath water. Wintergreen essential oil is not recommended for internal use and should be stored out of reach from children.

Wild Orange-Did You Know?

Orange FruitDid you know the Wild Orange is the oil of abundance. It inspires prosperity, encourages creativity, reinforces a positive mood and improves physical energy. Wild orange teaches the true meaning of abundance. it encourages people to let go of scarcity mindsets.

The orange is one of today’s most popular fruits? Originally oranges earned fame anciently to help control scurvy, one of the most devastating diseases of the time. The orange followed trade routes around the world, planted in areas where conditions allowed by sailors who knew its medicinal importance.

Oranges probably originated in South Asia-possibly in Southern China, Vietnam or the northern reaches of the Indian subcontinent. Indian records mentioned wild oranges as ingredients in recipes. The use of oranges in Indian cooking and medicine dates back at least 7,000 years. By 1000 A.D., farmers in China established orange orchards and competed to produce much better varieties of this delightful fruit.

Wild orange essential oil can be used in an all-purpose spray to cleanse and purify surfaces. Add a drop to your water every day for a burst of flavor and to promote overall health. Diffuse to uplift mood and energy levels and to freshen the air. Energize the mind and body. Dispense one to two drops in the palm of your hand along with equal parts Peppermint and Frankincense. Rub palms together and inhale deeply from palms, then rub on the back of neck.
