My Reading Miracle

Leonard Fish age 6When I was a small child I struggled with my reading ability. I was born with a lazy eye and astigmatism. The first four years of my life I wandered around half blind until I got glasses. This opened up a whole new world where I could see, but I was behind developmentally.

When I was in first and second grades I was at the bottom in all my classes at school. In my effort to catch up and improve myself, one year I received an award for reading 1,000 books to my mother and my two oldest siblings, Ramona and Sherry. The next closest person read only 400 books.

I had many helpful, caring teachers. I remember one machine that helped me read. It would make the sound of a word when you slid a card through the machine. It had a strip of recordable tape attached to cards. You would slide a card through the device, then you would hear the word you just read. I learned how to erase the right word and, replace it with the wrong word instead. The teacher was not happy with my newly discovered knowledge of the reading machine.

I find it interesting that in spite of my difficult past with reading, I have risen above my reading obstacle. I now enjoy writing, and sharing my love of essential oils. I have come full circle, sharing oils that may help small children with their ability to focus which I feel was one of my challenges as a child, and has followed me into adulthood. I have been blessed with an essential oil focus blend, that I have found greatly aids my ability to focus.

The Rolls Royce Dilemma

One of my dad’s former students, Mike, owned a car dealership that sold many high end cars. One day my dad decided to drop in, and say hello to a former student. While visiting he asked, “Mike, tell me one of your most interesting stories here at your car dealership.” Mike replied,” A few months ago a man in torn ragged clothes came into the show room looking at all the cars on display. It was not uncommon for homeless men and women to wander in off the streets to warm up from the cold. When this man came in, he was spending most of his time looking at the Rolls Royce automobiles.

Mike noticed he had two salesmen that could have helped this man, but chose not to. Feeling a little embarrassed that his salesmen were in no hurry to help this man, he went up to this man and asked if he could help him. He began to tell Mike that he had always wanted to own a Rolls Royce, and it was his wife’s birthday. He wanted to surprise her with a white Rolls Royce, and he wanted to get a black one for himself. The commission that the salesmen passed up would have given them an equivalent of four months of pay on those two cars. Mike called the bank, and the cars were ordered while the salesmen were left squirming with their mouths wide open. They judged this man unfairly because of the clothes he was wearing.

The same could be said about people sharing essential oils, Someone may say I can’t believe people actually think they can make money with essential oils. I am here to tell you, just as the Rolls Royce salesmen passed up talking to the man who looked like a bum, other people are passing on large six figure monthly incomes because they don’t realize the effective power of essential oils. I challenge everyone to use and share essential oils. They have changed my life, and can change yours as well.

Zoob’s Law

Zoob's Law
I encourage everyone to find truth. We will never grow if we close our minds to truth. It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. Many people are not ready to receive truth. We are all at different stages of learning. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

This brings up an interesting fact. Some people might be looking for a solution to a health problem or another concern they are having. When they are introduced to a solution they don’t recognize it as such, and easily discount the new concept as crazy or absurd.

I like Zoob’s Law. It goes like this, “Generally the non-informed can be expected to oppose whatever he does not understand, hiding his own ignorance by a degree of aggressive descent roughly equal to his ignorance. The greater the ignorance, the greater the opposition.”

Sometimes we are quick to judge or form an opinion about things when we do not really know how they work. We condemn things before we know the facts or truth about a matter. Often we make quick assessments of things we know nothing about. Let’s change that by being more open minded.

Lonely Leonard Gets Lost

When I was 14 the scouts went to a huge district camp in the West Desert of Utah where there were several hundred scouts. All the scouts and leaders were to follow a marked trail to a large camping area about a mile away. I was excited to get to the camping area ahead of all the scouts in my troop. I was a fast hiker and knew I could get to the camping area quickly. I wasn’t hiking alone since there were so many scouts from other troops. I knew I would be safe. I ended up hiking with a father and son from another troop. We kept hiking together for quite a while not seeing the camp. We knew we were in trouble when it started getting dark and no camp was in sight.

Since I was with an adult I didn’t worry too much about being lost. I only had my backpack with my sleeping bag and my food. I ate my dinner then unpacked my sleeping bag. I climbed into my sleeping bag early because I was cold. The scout and his Dad had a tent only big enough for two so I sleep under the stars. I remember I had just started dozing off to sleep when someone had found us. It was like a dream. I do remember them asking the man I was with if I was the missing scout. I was asked what my name was and what troop I was with. I am sure the news I had been found was a relief to my scout master. I was told to stay with the scout and his Dad until morning. The camp was only a few hundred yards away from where we were. That night it ended up raining so I got wet in my sleeping bag. It became a long cold night. I was never more thankful when morning came and we found the rest of the scouts in my troop. I found out that a few scouts changed the signs and rocks that were marking the trail so everyone could find their way to the camping spot better. Their prank could have been more serious.

At the next scout court of honor one of the scouts got up to tell about our last scout camp. He titled the camp, “Lonely Leonard Gets Lost.” Everyone had a big laugh. I have told this story several times over the years. I have a good friend to whom I told this story. He had been at that scout camp but he never realized I was the missing scout everyone was looking for until I told him the story. He said that everyone was calling my name. In his troop everyone in unison would count one two three, then call my name “Leon–ard” as loud as they could. There was even a search and rescue helicopter that was helping with the search. My friend said, “I can’t believe I didn’t make the connection until now.” We had a good laugh.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:8 it says “in every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I am thankful for this experience because it made me realize how many people cared about me as a person. It also made me aware of how important it is to stay together as a troop when hiking. When you have a dramatic experience it changes you.
