Gold, onyx, and something called bdellium. In just one short verse, Genesis 2:12 names three treasures found in the land of Havilah: “the gold of that land is good,” along with bdellium and the onyx stone. Gold and onyx are familiar to us. Bdellium is the mystery—and that single unfamiliar word gives us one of the Bible’s earliest intriguing references to an aromatic substance.
