Essential Oils in the Bible: Matthew 6:28-29

In Matthew 6:28–29, Jesus invites His listeners to consider the lilies of the field and the beauty found throughout creation. He points to these flowers as an example of God’s care and provision, noting that even King Solomon, known for his wealth and splendor, was not clothed as beautifully as they were. The passage encourages trust rather than worry.

While these verses are not specifically about essential oils, they highlight the importance of plants and flowers within biblical imagery. The lilies serve as a reminder that the natural world reflects beauty, purpose, and design. Their presence in scripture continues to inspire reflection on faith, nature, and gratitude.

Perhaps that is part of the invitation contained in the words “consider the lilies.” Sometimes we move so quickly through life that we overlook the ordinary beauty growing around us. A flower, an herb, a tree, or a familiar fragrance can become a small reminder to slow down, notice creation, and be grateful for what is already present.
