Jack and Jill’s trip up the hill has been making headlines all morning. According to eyewitnesses, the pair was seen happily climbing toward the old well to fetch a pail of water when things took an unexpected turn. Just as Jack reached the top, his foot slipped on a loose rock. Down the hillside he tumbled, arms waving and pail bouncing. Not wanting to leave her friend behind, Jill lost her balance and came rolling after him. Before long, two very dusty hill climbers were sitting at the bottom, wondering how such a simple chore had become the biggest excitement of the day.

The good news? Both Jack and Jill were soon sitting up, brushing the dirt from their clothes, and reassuring everyone that they would be just fine. Although no one enjoys an unexpected tumble, the surprise of a fall can leave the body feeling tense long after the bumps and bruises have settled. Hearts race, breathing becomes quicker, and everyone needs a moment to catch their breath.

If an essential oil first-aid team had been waiting nearby, Lavender would likely have been the first bottle opened to encourage a sense of calm after the excitement. Frankincense would be a welcome companion, helping everyone slow down, take a deep breath, and regain their composure. Helichrysum has long been appreciated by many essential oil users as a comforting choice after life’s little mishaps, making it a fitting addition to Jack and Jill’s recovery kit.

Perhaps that is why this nursery rhyme has lasted for generations. Life sometimes sends us tumbling downhill without warning, but a calm response, a helping hand, and a little laughter often make the journey back up the hill much easier.

Preacher is Dying

An old preacher who is dying sent a message for his banker and his lawyer “both church members” to come to his home. When they arrived, they were ushered up to his bedroom. As they entered the room, the preacher held out his hands and motioned for them to sit on on each side of the bed.

The preacher grasped their hands, sighed contentedly, smiled, and stared at the ceiling. For a time, no one said anything. Both the banker and the lawyer were touched and flattered that the preacher would ask them to be with him during his final moments. They were also puzzled; the preacher had never given them any indication that he particularly like either one of them.

They both remembered his long, uncomfortable sermons about greed, covetousness and selfish behavior that made them squirm in their seats. Finally, the banker said, “preacher, why did you ask us to come?’ The old preacher mustered up the strength and then said weakly, “Jesus died between two thieves and that’s how I want to go.
